What Does Mercedes-Benz AMG® Stand for?

The brand name AMG® originates from the initials of two automotive engineers at Daimler-Benz in the 1960s who developed racing engines in their spare time. The A and M are from Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The G stands for Großβaspach, the city where they developed their vaunted racing engine that, in 1965, debuted at the German Touring Car Championship.
